WHAT GREATER SUBIC BAY TOURISM BUREAU IS ALL ABOUT “ Your Tourism Haven Right Next Door. ” Greater Subic Bay is composed of the Provinces of Bataan & Zambales, the City of Olongapo and Subic Bay report and special Economic Zone, all found in Region Three or the Central Luzon region in the Philippines. Greater Subic Bay is the Tourism Belt of the W Growth Corridor, owing to the areas’ inherent beauty – its mountain ranges rich in biodiversity and wonderful coastlines dotted with strings of white sand beaches free of underwater rocks & coral. Its proximity to the Capital, Metropolitan Manila (only 1 ½ to 2 hours drive away) indeed makes it virtually a holiday getaway “right next door”. Bataan is the historical hub of Central Luzon having figured significantly in the country’s history during World War II. This province is now proving to be, a tourist haven with many exciting places to visit and a lot of interesting to do. There is so much to offer in Bataan – culture, history, beauty, its spoilt beaches and a warm hospitality that is truly Filipino. The wreck diving capital of the Philippines, Zambales is gifted with a natural beauty of its surroundings. It has been touched by civilization, yet has maintained its rustic glory and beauty. The Zambales coastline is most famous for its sandy beaches and deep blue sea with coral reefs. The world-renowned Mt. Pinatubo can be found in Botolan. Zambales is perfectly suited for visitors seeking the authentic country side living without going far from Manila. One of the most awarded cities in the Philippines, Olongapo City is known for its innovative projects that are becoming models for other cities and municipalities to follow. Programs like the Integrated Garbage Collection System, Color Coded Transport System, Volunteerism, Peace & Order Situation, Market Administration and Urban Basic Services Programs transformed Olongapo into one of the most tourist-friendly cities in the country. Its seafront community in Barrio Barretto offers one of the best bayside accommodations in the area. At the heart of Central Luzon is the Subic Bay Freeport and Special Economic Zone, an area geographically bounded by Bataan, Zambales & Olongapo City. Once the biggest and most strategic naval facility of the United States in the Pacific, the Freeport, is now an economic and tourism haven in the region. Being the main anchor of the W Growth Corridor Tourism Belt, the Freeport, with its world-class facilities, exemplifies the best of what Greater Subic Bay has to offer- a fusion of history, sports, cultural and eco-tourism side by side with the protection of the region’s forest and marine resources.
